Brief History of the Akita Dog/Puppy:-

The Akita originated from the Northern province of Japan in which the dog was named.  It is a breed known to have existed since the 1600s as it guarded the Japanese royalty and used for hunting fowls and bigger animals. The relative of Akita is known as the Matagi hound dog which  accompanies the conventional season hunter of Northern Japan.

Helen Keller, a popular woman in the world  introduced the Akita into America. The Japanese respected her and showed her statue of Hachiko, an Akita who achieved worldwide fame in the 1920s for his loyalty. A professor owned Hachiko and after he returned from work at 3 p.m., his devoted dog met him daily at the train station.  After his death, the loyall Hachiko continued to visit the train station before its demise  a full decade later.

Helen Keller decided to get an Akita for herself. She was given a puppy which was the first breed to be taken to America. Kelen named the puppy Kamikaze-go but became deeply sad when at a going age it died of  distemper. The Japanese heard the sad news and give bef the older brother of  kamikaze-go named Kenzan-go. According to her words,  Kamikaze had been “an angel in fur” and that the Akita puppy  was “gentle, companionable, and trusty.”

After World War II, American servicemen who had fought in Japan transported more Akita dogs to America upon their return. Thomas Boyd is credited with producing the first Akita stud to sire puppies in the U.S., starting in 1956. The American Akita eventually evolved into a more robust dog than the Japanese Akita and was cherished due to many reasons.

There were many people that loved the Japanese breed and decided to stick with the standard. This caused an age long battle that delayed the acceptance of the American Kennel Club. However, in 1972, the AKC accepted the Akita Club of America.

Other Factors

Champion Bloodline:  a dog in this bloodline means that it’s  predecessors (forefathers) were given the title of Champion in an official dog event/show which can make it more expensive.

Microchip:  when a dog is microchipped, it means that a permanent ID has been provided for the dog or puppy. This will also increase the price of the Akita.
